About the Author
My name is Molly Turgeon, I am a senior at Rutland High School and I am taking part in the STEM Capstone project. I love the outdoors, I like to go skiing, swimming, hiking, kayaking, and so much more. I also play basketball for my school. I am taking this class because I really enjoy science and math. When I graduate I would like to go into college and study to be a nurse, then I would like to specialize in pediatric nursing, that is why i'm so interested in this project. I am focusing on the study of premature babies and the battle that these babies fight. I want to know what the different struggles are for these babies, and not just the babies, but the parents and their emotions of having a child with so many complications. I want to try to help figure out a way to decrease this problem because as studies show every 1 out of 8 babies are born premature in the United States each year, and many of these premature babies don't survive. I want to research further to figure out what the doctors do to help these infants and ask some actual parents who have had a preemie before, someone that has one now, or even someone that lost a premature child. These infants go through so much and I want to help make others more aware of this problem.
